La palla a spicchi tra le discipline più attese dell’ottava edizione degli EUG Salerno 2026, nelle sue due articolazioni: il basket indoor ed il 3×3. Già teatro di gara, la scorsa estate, degli European Universities Championship di basket 3X3, il Campus di UNISA ospiterà la rassegna europea a partire dal 19 di luglio. Ai nastri di partenza della rassegna maschile anche il Team Lituania, oro nell’agosto dell’anno passato. Al torneo parteciperanno 24 squadre in rappresentanza di altrettante Università per un totale di 96 atleti e 39 tra coach e manager. Presente anche la delegazione italiana guidata dall’Università di Salerno e dall’Università di Ferrara. Il tabellone 3×3 femminile, vedrà invece ai blocchi di partenza 20 atenei con 80 atlete e 29 membri dello staff, inclusa l’Università di Salerno. NEL 3X3 OCCHIO ALLA LITUANIA “Ci sarà una grandissima affluenza da parte di tutte le università e di tantissimi atleti e studenti. Si parla di una settimana di manifestazione – ha dichiarato Andrea Forgione, technical delegate del Basket 3×3 del CUS Salerno – ma in realtà sarà una settimana molto intensa e concentrata, perché comprende anche i giorni dedicati agli arrivi e alle partenze. Di fatto, avremo quattro giornate piene per gestire il torneo. A differenza dello scorso anno, quando tutta la manifestazione si è svolta al Campus di Fisciano, quest’anno utilizzeremo il Polo di Lancusi. Abbiamo cambiato location, ma di pochissimo, e speriamo che la scelta sia apprezzata da tutti. Lo scorso anno il livello della competizione è stato davvero altissimo e ci aspettiamo che quest’anno sia ancora più elevato. Tra le nazioni di maggior rilievo c’era sicuramente la Lituania, che ha conquistato il titolo nel torneo maschile, ma meritano una menzione anche Francia, Turchia e tutte le altre squadre, che hanno dimostrato grande valore e hanno combattuto con determinazione per tutta la durata della manifestazione. Da anni il CUS lavora a questo evento con grande impegno”. INDOOR: 28 SQUADRE PARTECIPANTI Per quello che concerne invece il torneo di basket indoor saranno complessivamente 28 le squadre partecipanti. Il torneo maschile si svilupperà in un tabellone composto da 16 atenei, per un totale di 190 atleti, 54 tra coach e manager e 11 arbitri ufficiali, con l’Italia rappresentata dall’Università di Bologna, campione in carica (Debrecen 2024) e dall’Università di Salerno. Il corrispettivo femminile vedrà 12 squadre darsi battaglia muovendo 139 atlete, 42 membri dello staff e 8 arbitri. Ancora Bologna a rappresentare il tricolore. “La pallacanestro – dice Rino Zagaria, technical delegate per il Basket del Cus Salerno – sarà una delle discipline col maggior numero di partecipanti. Saranno due le Università italiane presenti: Bologna che è campione uscente e Salerno che si presenta ai nastri di partenza quale organizzatore. Numerose le rappresentative di qualità che si sfideranno: molte Università hanno infatti in organico atleti professionisti. I tornei verranno ospitati da quattro strutture: il PalaIrno di Baronissi, il PalaBerlinguer di Bellizzi, il PalaPontecagnano e il PalaMatierno di Salerno. Ogni struttura ospiterà quattro incontri quotidiani a partire dal 19 luglio. Tra le rappresentative più attese – prosegue Zagaria – quella di Nantes e quella di Madrid ma Bologna è ovviamente una delle più temute avendo vinto la scorsa edizione dei Giochi. C’è grande impegno da parte degli organizzatori perché il torneo, sia quello maschile che quello femminile, vedrà una larga partecipazione. Oltre allo sforzo degli organizzatori ci sarà grande impegno attraverso i volontari che assicureranno il supporto per la riuscita dell’evento”. EUG SALERNO 2026: BASKETBALL AND 3×3 READY TO TAKE CENTRE STAGE AT THE MAJOR EUROPEAN EVENT Basketball, in both its traditional indoor format and the fast-paced 3×3 discipline, will be among the highlights of the eighth edition of EUG Salerno 2026. Following the successful hosting of the European Universities 3×3 Basketball Championship last summer, the University of Salerno Campus will once again welcome Europe’s top university athletes, with competitions getting underway on 19 July. The men’s 3×3 tournament will feature the Lithuanian team, reigning champions after claiming gold last August. A total of 24 university teams will compete, bringing together 96 athletes and 39 coaches and team managers. Italy will be represented by the University of Salerno and the University of Ferrara. The women’s 3×3 competition will include 20 universities, with 80 athletes and 29 staff members taking part, including the host University of Salerno. LITHUANIA THE TEAM TO WATCH IN 3×3 “There will be a tremendous turnout from universities, athletes and students,” said Andrea Forgione, Technical Delegate for 3×3 Basketball at CUS Salerno. “Although the event officially lasts a week, it will actually be an extremely intense period because it also includes arrival and departure days. In practice, we will have four full days to manage the tournament. “Unlike last year, when the entire competition took place on the Fisciano Campus, this year matches will be held at the Lancusi Sports Centre. We’ve changed the venue, but only slightly, and we hope everyone will appreciate the choice. “The standard of competition last year was exceptionally high, and we expect it to be even stronger this year. Lithuania was certainly one of the standout nations, winning the men’s title, but France, Türkiye and all the other teams also demonstrated outstanding quality and fought with great determination throughout the event. CUS Salerno has been working on this event with great dedication for many years.” INDOOR TOURNAMENT FEATURES 28 TEAMS The indoor basketball competition will feature a total of 28 teams. The men’s tournament will include 16 universities, bringing together 190 athletes, 54 coaches and team managers, and 11 official referees. The women’s competition will see 12 universities competing, involving 139 athletes, 42 staff members and eight referees.
