Tra le 13 discipline protagoniste degli EUG 2026 – in programma a Salerno dal 18 luglio al 1° agosto – presenti anche la pallavolo e il beach volley.
La pallavolo sarà, con il Calcio a 5, la disciplina inaugurale degli EUG 2026. Infatti rispetto al 18, data d’inizio dei giochi, le competizioni avranno inizio un giorno prima, il 17 luglio, e si protrarranno fino al 23. Saranno 32 le squadre in gara, suddivise in 16 maschili e 16 femminili. A Debrecen nella pallavolo maschile il titolo è stato conquistato dall’Università di Rostock, Germania. Tra le donne, invece, a trionfare è stata l’Italia grazie all’Università di Bologna che in finale ha superato le croate dell’Università di Zagabria laureandosi campione.
La manifestazione si articolerà in 4 gironi da 4 squadre, dopodiché si procederà con la fase finale che prevederà le gare per i piazzamenti fino alla finale 15°- 16° posto. A fare da palcoscenico alle gare sarà il Campus di Baronissi, grazie alla presenza di quattro palazzetti che ospiteranno l’intera competizione.
“Sarà un evento interessante – afferma Massimo Pessolano, official technical delegate della pallavolo del Cus Salerno – sia tecnicamente sia per le varie università partecipanti. La dirigenza del CUS, in capo al presidente avvocato Lentini e il direttore generale Di Ruocco, hanno voluto fortemente la possibilità di gestire tutta la pallavolo all’interno del Campus di medicina, dove sono collocate le strutture del CUS. In modo da rendere tutto più facile sia per gli atleti che per il pubblico. In questo periodo le varie nazionali sono in giro per il mondo per i vari campionati di categoria, quindi probabilmente gli atleti più “importanti” saranno impegnati lì. Ma il livello agli EUG sarà sicuramente alto, o almeno quello è l’auspicio. I ragazzi si sposteranno in pochi minuti sia tra campo e residenze sia tra i campi stessi. La nostra forza maggiore sono i volontari, circa 150, che ci supporteranno sia durante le gare sia durante gli allenamenti. Ci stiamo attrezzando per lasciare la miglior esperienza possibile di Salerno per le varie università. Questo percorso è iniziato circa 10 mesi fa. Oggi stiamo mettendo gli ultimi tasselli assieme per rendere la manifestazione la meglio possibile. Il gruppo di lavoro si sta spendendo tantissimo per rendere la macchina organizzativa quanto più perfetta possibile. Lo sport è anche sociale, fa vivere culture diverse insieme. Non sempre è facile, ma noi nel nostro piccolo ci proviamo sempre, affinché i ragazzi possano conoscere tante altre realtà, anche al di fuori della pallavolo. Vi invitiamo tutti ad essere presenti”.
BEACH VOLLEY: i tornei, maschile e femminile, si svolgeranno dal 28 luglio al 1° agosto. 48 le squadre complessive, 24 formazioni maschili e 24 femminili. Nella precedente edizione dei giochi, disputata a Debrecen nel 2024, a conquistare il gradino più alto del podio nel beach volley sono state, in campo maschile, l’Università di Vienna e in quello femminile la Lithuanian Sports University.
Nella fattispecie la competizione si articolerà in tre fasi. Nella prima fase, le squadre saranno suddivise in gironi da tre. Le vincitrici di ciascun girone accederanno direttamente alla fase finale. Nella seconda fase, le squadre classificate al secondo e terzo posto nei rispettivi gironi si sfideranno per completare il tabellone delle migliori 16 squadre. La terza fase sarà invece riservata alle formazioni che non avranno ottenuto l’accesso alle prime due, le quali disputeranno le finali di classificazione per le posizioni dal 17° al 24° posto.
“Il beach volley ha preso piede negli ultimi anni – ha dichiarato Roberto Corvo, official technical delegate del beach volley del Cus Salerno – con tante società che dopo la fase invernale indoor si dedicano a questa disciplina. Presso il Campus di Baronissi saranno realizzati quattro campi da beach volley, tra questi un campo sarà dedicato agli allenamenti. Il livello tecnico della manifestazione è previsto essere medio-alto, grazie alla presenza di numerosi atleti semi professionisti, elemento che contribuirà ad aumentare la qualità e la competitività del torneo”.
Corvo ha poi aggiunto: “Il CUS Salerno si presenta a questa competizione con ottime prospettive sia nel settore maschile sia in quello femminile. I nostri atleti, durante la stagione invernale, sono impegnati prevalentemente nell’attività di pallavolo indoor, mentre nel periodo estivo si dedicano al beach volley partecipando regolarmente ai campionati di Serie B. La preparazione delle squadre è affidata a due tecnici altamente qualificati, che svolgono un lavoro settimanale mirato sia sotto il profilo tecnico sia sotto quello tattico, con l’obiettivo di consolidare le intese di gioco, affinare i meccanismi di squadra e curare ogni dettaglio necessario per affrontare una competizione di alto livello”.

EUG SALERNO 2026: VOLLEYBALL TAKES CENTRE STAGE AT THE EUROPEAN UNIVERSITIES GAMES. BARONISSI CAMPUS SET TO HOST THE TOURNAMENTS. RECORD NUMBERS: 32 VOLLEYBALL TEAMS, 48 BEACH VOLLEYBALL TEAMS
Among the 13 sports featured at the EUG 2026, scheduled to take place in Salerno from 18 July to 1 August, volleyball and beach volleyball will also play a leading role.
Volleyball, together with futsal, will officially open the EUG 2026 competition programme. Although the Games begin on 18 July, volleyball matches will start one day earlier, on 17 July, and will run until 23 July. A total of 32 teams will compete, divided equally into 16 men’s and 16 women’s teams.
At the previous edition in Debrecen, the men’s title was won by the University of Rostock (Germany). In the women’s tournament, Italy claimed the gold medal thanks to the University of Bologna, which defeated the University of Zagreb (Croatia) in the final.
The tournament will begin with four groups of four teams. This will be followed by the knockout stage and placement matches, with every team competing through to the 15th–16th place playoff.
The entire volleyball competition will take place at the Baronissi Campus, where four indoor sports halls will host all the matches.
“It will be a fascinating event, both from a technical point of view and because of the variety of participating universities,” said Massimo Pessolano, Official Technical Delegate for Volleyball at CUS Salerno. “The CUS management, led by President Attorney Lentini and General Director Di Ruocco, strongly wanted to host the entire volleyball competition within the Medical Campus, where the CUS facilities are located. This will make everything much easier for both the athletes and the spectators. At this time of year, many national teams are competing around the world in various age-group championships, so some of the top players will likely be involved there. Nevertheless, we expect the level of competition at the EUG to be very high. Athletes will be able to move between the courts and their accommodation, as well as between the different venues, in just a few minutes. Our greatest strength is our team of around 150 volunteers, who will support both matches and training sessions.We are doing everything we can to ensure that all participating universities enjoy the best possible experience in Salerno. This journey began about ten months ago, and we are now putting the finishing touches in place to make the event as successful as possible. The entire organising team is working tirelessly to make the operation run as smoothly as possible. Sport is also about bringing people together and allowing different cultures to meet. It is not always easy, but we do our best to give these young athletes the opportunity to discover new realities beyond volleyball itself. We invite everyone to come and support the event.”
Beach Volleyball
The men’s and women’s beach volleyball tournaments will take place from 28 July to 1 August. A total of 48 teams will compete, with 24 men’s and 24 women’s pairs.
At the previous edition of the Games in Debrecen 2024, the gold medals were won by the University of Vienna in the men’s competition and the Lithuanian Sports University in the women’s tournament.
The competition will be played in three stages. During the first stage, teams will be divided into groups of three, with the winners of each pool advancing directly to the final stage.
In the second stage, the teams finishing second and third in each group will compete for the remaining places in the Round of 16.
The third stage will involve the teams that do not qualify for the knockout rounds, who will compete in placement matches for positions 17th to 24th.
“Beach volleyball has grown significantly in recent years,” said Roberto Corvo, Official Technical Delegate for Beach Volleyball at CUS Salerno. “Many clubs now switch their focus to this discipline once the indoor season has ended. Four beach volleyball courts will be built at the Baronissi Campus, including one dedicated exclusively to training sessions. The overall technical standard of the tournament is expected to be medium to high, thanks to the participation of numerous semi-professional athletes, which will undoubtedly enhance the quality and competitiveness of the event.”
Corvo added: “CUS Salerno approaches this competition with strong ambitions in both the men’s and women’s tournaments. During the winter season, our athletes mainly compete in indoor volleyball, while in the summer they focus on beach volleyball and regularly participate in the Italian Serie B championship. The teams are coached by two highly qualified coaches who carry out targeted weekly training, focusing on both technical and tactical aspects. Their goal is to strengthen team chemistry, refine playing systems and prepare every detail necessary to compete successfully at a high-level international event.”
